Water with a pH less than 7.0 is considered to be acidic. The EPA recommends that drinking water treated by municipalities be within the 6.5 to 8.5 pH range, and you can use this same range for your well. You can test for water acidity at the tap with simple pool test strips. If you don’t like the result, give Water-Flo a call to confirm and evaluate solutions. Untreated acidic water can damage your water-using appliances, pipes, and even etch the granite around your kitchen tap! A whole-house neutralizer is a solution that will bring the pH back up into the ideal range, and in most cases, only requires annual service. If you do have a neutralizer installed, consider that the water is still acidic before it reaches the house. This means that over time it can impact your well pump and could cause pinhole leaks in pipes from the well to the house. Unfortunately, that is just nature and we can only control the pH at the house! Call Water-Flo for water testing and solutions.
