Did you know that there can be sediment in your well water? If you already have a sediment filter you’ll see the (usually) dark granules when you change the filter. (You ARE changing the filter, aren’t you?! If you often forget to change it, check out our Salt and Filter Maintenance Plan). Not everyone needs a filter but if you are not sure, unscrew the aerator on a kitchen or bathroom faucet and tap it out onto a paper towel. The top picture is what it looks like under a microscope!
So, what is the sediment in your water? Most commonly it’s minerals, sand or silt. Occasionally, sediment can be from degradation of pipes in older homes, or aging water heaters, both of which would require a call to your plumber.
